General Health Screening

We offer comprehensive Health Screening packages designed to pick out possible health problems hidden in otherwise healthy adults. We hope that by going through these packages, you may become more aware of the different aspects of a person's well-being and learn how to keep fit and healthy.

Please note that these are "screening packages". They have a broad coverage but are not designed to fully assess every health related problem.

What is involved in a General Health Screening?

There are 2 visits involved.

You will need to be fasted for the first visit (usually done in the early morning). A detailed Family and Personal Medical History is taken and a thorough Physical Examination is then performed. A broad range of blood and urine tests will be done. Stool will also be taken for analysis. ECG, CXR and a PAP Smear (if applicable) will also be done. Be prepared to spend 1 - 2 hours at the clinic for these to be done. Sometimes, further tests may be required if the findings warrant them. You will be advised accordingly.

The second visit is usually held about 2 weeks after the first. A detailed report will be presented to you and the findings explained. Identified conditions and risk factors will be discussed with you. If further action or investigations are required, they will be made known to you at this visit.

Who should be screened?

General Health Screenings are designed for people who appear to be well but would like to have a better idea of their health. It helps to identify hidden conditions (like Hypertension, Diabetes, High Cholesterol level) and unhealthy lifestyle. It is not designed to assess known conditions. If you wish to find out more about a known condition, seek an ordinary consultation first. If you are unsure, give us a call. After your initial screening, we will advise you on when to do any further screening / tests / follow-up treatment etc. Healthy adults may wish to have this done at 40yrs of age. Those who have a known family history of Hypertension, Diabetes, High Cholesterol or cancers may wish to be screened at 35yrs or even earlier if there are any danger symptoms or signs.

How frequent do I need a Health Screening?

How frequent a test need to be repeated depends on the condition and the findings. If you have been found to have a high Cholesterol level, the doctor may want to do a retest 3 - 6 months after diet and lifestyle modifications have been advised. Some tests may not need to be repeated for many more years. You will be advised after your initial screening on what follow-up need be taken.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Appointments are essential. If you are interested in having a General Health Screening done or wish to find out more, please call us. We will also advise you on what you will need to do in preparation for the visit.

Do I need Ultrasound, Threadmill and other more sophisticated tests?

A Cost- Benefit balance has to be reached in determining what tests should be included in the initial General Health Screening. It is not cost effective to include expensive secondary level tests in the first assessment. If however, abnormal findings are detected in the initial Health Screening, we will advise you and help you make the necessary arrangements for further tests.

Will Children benefit from a General Health Screening?

All young children in Singapore are scheduled for development assessments up to the age of 5yrs. After that, annual assessments are done free-of-charge in schools. There is therefore no necessity for children to be screened here. Parents who have any specific health concerns for their children may bring them for a normal consultation.

I am still undecided. What should I do?

Pay a visit to your family doctor. Bring along any previous test reports, medication etc. Discuss your concerns with him/her. Your doctor will be pleased to advise you if a General Health Screening is beneficial for you. You may also call us or email us.
